Law Day 2026

Today is Law Day in the United States.

For a lot of years after I retired, I was active in an organization who was very active advocate for the rule of law.  Before that, though not a lawyer, most of my work time was spent dealing in one way or another with legal matters such as contracts, etc.

A few years ago, while going through the papers of my friend Lynn Elling, I discovered a 52 page booklet produced for Law Day from 1959, produced by the American Bar Association.  The four links are the entirety of that first booklet, now 67 years old, but more current now than ever.  (The note on the cover was by a prominent twin cities lawyer who was president of the local group.)

If nothing else, read the first two or three pages of the first link.  The booklet is the post.  Certainly share with friends you know who are in the profession of Law.

You do understand, Dick, that Trump does not think that he has to abide by the rule of law or the Constitution a dn behaves accordingly. The Congress does not have the political courage to challenge Trump if they ever disagreed with him, but they generally do not nor do the SCOTUS, So, we can celebrate the significance of the meaning of Law Day while realizing that its significance is no longer in play with Trump et al. That is, that means nothing to Trump nor to the voters who elected him in an electoral College landslide! Not even close!

Powerful stuff! Love the beginning of what Eisenhower stated, “whereas a free people can assure the blessings of liberty for themselves only of they recognize the necessity that the rule of law shall be supreme, and that all men should be equal before the law”. Eisenhower was far from my favorite President, but this was well said.
