Today, Robert Reich announced a new film premiering in 17 states, virtually all on September 9.

Here’s his note.  Two of the premiers are in Minneapolis-St. Paul, both on September 9 at 7 p.m..  I suggest no delay in making your reservation.  Let others know.  Reich’s note let’s people know how to request a showing in their home area.

Yesterday I purchased tickets for the Sep 9 new film, “The Work in Progress”, which is opening in over 20 locations, mostly on September 9 – two of the locations are in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.  All information above.

POSTNOTES August 26: Paul Krugman has a 12 minute commentary, “Der Untergang”, which I urge you to listen to.  This is not a throwaway talk.  Everyone of us in this country have a personal stake in, and responsibility for, what is and will continue to be happening.  Get engaged.

Since I’ve gotten to know DJT post 2015, it’s never been hard for me to see the direct analogies to Hitler and the Third Reich.  Beyond the usual knowledge of the Nazi era, I’ve been privileged to know “Annaliese”, 100 next month, born in Germany in 1926, who lived in Germany the totality of WWII.  Annaliese, who I’ve known since 2003,  moved to the United States in 1947, which ever since has been her home.  She lived in the Third Reich and fully experienced it.  As she turns 100, she grieves what is happening in our own country. which she adopted so many years ago.

I have been regularly watching Heather Cox Richardson’s wonderful series of one minute snips of American History called 250 at 250.  I think you can access all of them are her YouTube channel   They are a tiny investment of time and cover many topics with many narrators.

Of course, yesterday we learned of the death of Dolly Parton.  I have always liked her music, and learning of her death reminded me of learning of the death of Elvis Presley in 1977 – both unexpected.

My favorite memory is seeing the new movie, 9 to 5, in Texas in 1980.  We were in south Texas to visit my parents, and the movie had only recently been released.  I remember it fondly.  Dolly showed up.  She is at peace and we are the better for her having been with us.

For Minnesotans, today is the first day of the Minnesota State Fair Aug. 27 – Sep 7 (Labor Day).  As I age, I’m less likely to attend, but a safe bet is that I’ll spend two or three hours at the Fair on one of the Senior Days (8/31 or 9/3) every year doing the same tour, getting there by bus from some reasonably near by location.  It is a big event here, perhaps one of the largest in the U.S., or so the PR goes.

POSTNOTE, August 28: “Lake America” Heather Delaney Reese.  The only solution is ordinary citizens, acting individually, wherever they live, demanding in many ways, that this outrage has to stop.  Silence is not an option.

Thanks for the link to Heather Cox Richardson’s eulogy of Dolly Parton.

By another coincidence I also went to see 9 to 5 at the movies – not such a great coincidence as millions did but I don’t know why I would have gone at the time. I had lots of studying to do and block busters were not what I would have put time aside to watch. Yet I went & enjoyed it. She will be missed.

One of the things she said was: ‘It costs a lot of money to look cheap’ or something along those lines. I hope that’s not what’s going on at the White House etc.

On the internet one can find a lot of praise for the woman, her acting, her charitable generosity & her singing of course. Along with some witticisms:
